Redick to Central Florida News 13: "I don't think I'll be here a long time."

After last night's win over the Raptors, J.J. Redick told Jon Hirozawa of Central Florida News 13 that he and Magic coach Stan Van Gundy have talked recently about Redick's role with the team. From the article (emphasis mine):

"We've talked and he's made it clear that I'm not going to be in the rotation. There's nothing I can do. Right now I'm just thinking about my future and I'm working for that more so than trying to get in the rotation. I don't think I'll be here a long time. I think Stan is going to be here a long time and his philosophy and my phillosophy don't really go together," Redick told Hirozawa.

You can watch a video of the brief postgame conversation here.

Perhaps this interview will sway Magic GM Otis Smith, who made it explicitly clear in the weeks leading up to the NBA trading deadline that he has no interest in trading Redick. Then again, with Keyon Dooling and Maurice Evans' impending free-agency, and Keith Bogans' ability to opt-out, and Redick may find himself in the rotation next year. But it certainly appears as though Redick and Van Gundy do not get along well, and it may behoove Smith to listen to trade offers for Redick this summer.

One thing that puzzles me about this situation: Redick says his philosophy is incompatible with Van Gundy's, yet Redick is a three-point assassin and the Magic, under Van Gundy, have transformed into one of the league's best three-point shooting teams.

Huge hat-tip to user J Staff at John Denton's Magic board.

Thats garbage

JJ is talking stupid. His philosophy compared to SVG? What would that be, that the SG needs to play some defense? In fairness I could see how JJ is frustrated to be stuck behind two perennial backups, but talking crap like this does not help his cause.

In all honesty, I will be mighty disappointed if SVG can't find a spot for JJ by the latest next year. That would be inexcusable. Don't trade him, accommodate him.

I agree

The point of the shooting guard is in its name...
shoot...
JJ Redick has wat it takes but..... we have a small forward and power forward that are shooters 1st.... thus we need a defensive shooting guard....

I wished ariza was still here because then JJ redick will get his shoots while Ariza works on Defense...

I dont see how were gonna use JJ Redick.
Consider him goodbye next season.....
I like him, but he doesn't fit the system....

Nobody Cares What JJ Wants

Message to JJ.......ZIP IT!!!

I have no clue where Mr. Redick gets his sense of entitlement, however I do know that JJ will play when SVG decides he will play, he will be utilized in a manner that Otis and Stan decide will be in the best interest of the team, he will be on the payroll until the Magic decide to move him or change his role.

I am sick and tired of JJ, JJ talk, JJ speculation, discussion of JJ's future, JJ's whining about his "role" and at this point just about everything JJ related.  Do your job, shut your yap and wait your turn.  Its not like you have presented a compelling case for yourself and its not like your team is struggling.

JJ: I Will Drop the Playing Time Issue

To the readers and BQR, check out this latest post by J.J. in his blog.

http://www.redicklive.com/redick/blogDetail/253

I have a link and a report about it on my blog, Bold N Blue if you want to check it out.

I think J.J. is wise to drop the issue because the most important thing is the team. We have a playoff team with high aspirations and we don't need any one guy causing dissentions around the locker room.
